CCTV Vandalism Case in Pejompongan to Be Investigated

Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency, will cooperate with the Police to investigate the alleged destruction of CCTV cameras by irresponsible individuals during a demonstration in the Pejompongan area, Monday (8/25).

"We respect citizens' right to express their opinions publicly as part of democracy. However, this freedom must be accompanied by a sense of responsibility," he said, Tuesday (8/26).

Budi added that CCTV is important in helping maintain city security and plays a crucial role in monitoring conditions on the ground, especially when an incident occurs.

"Damaging these facilities has the potential to create an unfavorable situation," he added.

As for information, destroying public facilities, including CCTV, is a criminal offense according to Article 406 of the Criminal Code (KUHP).

The article states that anyone who intentionally damages, destroys or renders an item unusable can be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of two years and eight months or a fine.

Therefore, Budi emphasized that his side will follow up on this case seriously to provide a deterrent effect.

"We will thoroughly investigate the CCTV vandalism incident in Pejompongan in coordination with the police. The perpetrators must be prosecuted according to the law," he stated.
